Weight Loss Myths vs Facts
Myth
Intense and radical training is the only way to lose weight
Fact
Not true, you need to make small changes that you can stick to for a long time. Loosing weight is a marathon not a sprint.
Myth
Carbs add to your weight
Fact
Not true. All carbs are not the same. Refined carbs such as flour made from grain or fruit juice can add to the weight gain but complex carbs like whole-grain, legumes, fruits, and starchy vegetables if ingested in the right combinations help you with satiety due to high fiber content.
Myth
Cutting out all snacks helps in weight loss
Fact
True. In general, the habit of beginning and ending a meal is a good one. There are some exceptions to this rule like when your body is very weak, or you are on medications, etc.
Myth
Foods labeled ‘low fat' are healthy.
Fact
Not true. Just being labeled ‘low fat’ does not make the food a healthy choice. Some low-fat foods contain a high level of sugar.
Myth
Starving is the ideal way to lose weight
Fact
Not true. Extremes of diets are difficult to sustain. Failures in these settings are detrimental to self-esteem. In this setting, a short-lived sugar high can become enticing.
